Economics Department 40TH Anniversary Celebration

On Friday evening, 12 November 2004, the Economics Department celebrated Macquarie's 40th anniversary. 80 current and past staff, research, PhD and Honours students joined in the celebrations. We were honoured to have as special guests the department's founding fathers Professor Noel Drane and Dr Harry Edwards.

We sipped champagne and feasted on hors d'oeuvres whilst enjoying glorious views of Sydney and the harbour from the prime location at the Buena Vista Café. The ambience was enhanced by music provided by the talented trio, Jazz in the Dark.

After catching up with friends and colleagues attention turned to speeches from Ed Davis, David Throsby, Tony Bryant and Harry Edwards. Listening to anecdotes of the growth of the department over the last 40 years was both enlightening and entertaining. David Throsby shall from now on be affectionately known as the Tom Cruise of Economics.
