SONY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

The Sony Foundation has generously established a Japanese Economic Studies Scholarship to the value of $15,000.

The Scholarship is awarded to the writer of the winning research paper on Japanese Business Practices. The paper will be published as part of the CJES Research Paper Series.

RULES

  • Contestants must be enrolled within the Faculty of Business and Economics at Macquarie University.


  • Contestants must currently be studying (or have previously studied) the Japanese language and must display a minimum proficiency in that language.


  • All entries are to be no more than 5000 words, excluding abstracts and appendices.


  • All entries must include an abstract of 100 words or less, and must be written both in English and Japanese.


  • All entries will be on a topic of the contestant's choosing, but must cover some aspect of Japanese business practices.


  • Before proceeding, all contestants must have their topic approved by the Director of the Centre for Japanese Economic Studies.


  • Essays must include a cover sheet stating the essay title, author's name, author's field of study (degree major), mailing address, phone number, and email address.


  • Essays are to be double spaced, type written and with page margins of 2.25cm. All referencing is to be presented as per The American Economic Review.


  • Contestants are to submit four copies of their paper and retain an additional copy for their own files.


  • Essays will be judged according to the quality of research displayed, the presentation of material contained in the essay, and the content of the essay. Particular weight will be attached to any valid original research presented.

SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS

  • The scholarship winner will receive from the Sony Foundation a full year's scholarship (Macquarie University) to the value of $10,000.


  • The scholarship winner will also be flown (all expenses paid) to Sony's Headquarters in Tokyo for a week of planned activites.


  • The scholarship winner will have his/her essay published as part of the CJES Research Papers Series.

2002 WINNER

The 2002 winner is Belinda Catorall, a BBA/BA (Japanese Studies) at Macquarie University.
