Profile

Before moving to Australia in 1999, Max lived in London and worked for Morgan Stanley and JP Morgan Chase. He was also an occasional research assistant at the Centre for Economics Performance of the London School of Economics. He began his academic career in Australia at the ANU, and spent five years with ADFA in Canberra before moving to Macquarie University as a Senior Lecturer in 2007.

He has extensive experience dealing with large databases, and has published over 10 articles dealing with research interests in the areas of migration, knowledge labour flows, education and student learning. His research has been awarded competitive grants in projects as a lead or sole researcher from the Australian Research Council (ARC - both Linkage and Discovery programs), the Department of Immigration Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs (DIMIA), the Australia-Harvard Club, the Academy of Social Sciences of Australia - French Embassy (ASSA-FE), the Australian Universities Europe Network (AUEN), UNSW Faculty Research Grants (FRG), and UNSW Special Research Grants (SRG). Dr Tani Bertuol has served on two selection panels of DEST’s Endeavour awards.

He is a member of the permanent committee of Italian scientists abroad, Research Fellow of the Institute for the Future of Labour (Bonn), Research Fellow in the School of Communication at the University of Canberra, a fellow of the Marie Curie Association (European Union), an ex-Chevening Scholar, a member of the Italian Association of Financial Analysts, area leader of the Alumni of Bocconi University, and a founding member of the Association for Research between Italy and Australasia - Canberra.
